BOOK DESCRIPTION

What if the Bible was a con devised by none other than Lucifer himself? What if The Rapture came, and it was a trick? In E.C. Fisher’s biblical thriller The Deceived, it is the devil who is behind religion, and everyone from Adam and Eve on up are in the thrall of his lies. But as the End of Days plays out on Earth—a ploy designed by Lucifer to give the world to his followers—the archangel Michael is sent down to earth from heaven, where he must battle the devil to save God’s children—not to mention the planet. As God lays dying in heaven, and Lucifer kidnaps Michael’s soulmate, Ari-el—Michael must face not only the potential of demons overtaking earth, but the loss of both his Father and his one true love. Armed with the Sword of the Spirit, forged from God’s own powerful wings, Michael sets out to destroy the Antichrist, and thereby bring an end to the deadly masquerade that is Lucifer’s religion. Written with the verve of a contemporary adventure fantasy, and the deep, complex knowledge of a religious thriller, The Deceived is a harrowing tale that reflects the rifts and tensions of our modern political moment. This is the story of Revelations that you do not know, but one that you will not be able to put down.

REVIEW

A compelling and gripping read

Whatever flaws we might identify or frustrations we might feel are trivial in comparison to a reader’s pure joy in losing himself/herself in a narrative. When all the elements come together: an intriguing plot, thoughtful, profound themes, complex, troubling, characters, and language that will amaze for its clarity, directness and confidence; we gratefully set all analysis aside and give ourselves up to the sheer magic of a great book. And for me, The Deceived, is such a book.

Author E. C. Fisher weaves a contemporary biblical fantasy, with intriguing twists and turns that will easily captivate the reader’s attention from the beginning. The author paints an alternative version of the struggle between Lucifer and God in a very vivid and evocative way.

The book description says it all; ‘What if the Bible was a con devised by none other than Lucifer himself? What if The Rapture came, and it was a trick? In E.C. Now, if that’s not enough to whet your appetite, I don’t know what will. But if you want to find out what happens you’ll just have to turn the pages for yourself to find out! But I will say it’s well worth the read. It’s my first time reading this author and I must say I was very impressed.

This captivating and commendable work had me immersed from the beginning. The story flowed from scene to scene with ease, and the author shows exceptional ability when it comes to storytelling. There are plenty of attention-grabbing moments in this page turner that will take the reader on a compelling and gripping journey.

It’s one of those books that come along once in a while that makes you want to read it non-stop until you get to the end. I’m giving nothing further away here. And this, I hope, will only add to the mystery and enjoyment for the reader. I will say, however, that fans of the mystery, thriller and suspense genre will love having a nibble on this one! Although, fair warning must be given that this read would not be recommended for the religiously sensitive among us.

If this book is anything to go by, I’ll certainly be looking forward to reading more from E. C. Fisher in the future. I would definitely recommend this book and would love to see it adapted for the Silver Screen. Five stars from me.
