Rhyme & Reason: My Life in Poems

December 1, 2018

As a single parent of three, I have had an extraordinary life. But even so I’ve had my share of heartbreaks. And I’ve come to know people who have experienced extreme highs and lows in their lives as well. With their blessings, I have told their stories so as to give them comfort and help them to heal and move on.

I personally have always believed that no matter how tough things get, to succeed, it’s important to find the positive among the negative in life. It may not always be easy . . . but it is possible. These poems are my positives. Some relate overwhelming pain and sadness . . . while others express the most joyous moments in my life. I relate how anger can cripple as well as empower. It’s all in the way you perceive it. Writing has served as an outlet for my deepest felt emotions . . . some good, some bad . . . and at times the best therapy. But I also know that without Jehovah God in my life to strengthen and guide my very steps, I may have remained lost. I am forever grateful for his unending love and direction.

A wonderful collection of poetry.

When we read good poetry, it captures our soul and takes hold of our emotions. Rhyme & Reason: My Life in Poem is a beautiful collection of poems, written by a very talented poet. It is a collection to savor and reread. You will find yourself coming back to it over and over as life changes happen, each time gaining more wisdom, advice, and peace from the words within. This is poetry for people who like their hair to stand on end. It will touch you wherever you are in your own particular way, just the way poetry should.

Award winning poet Ilene Goff Kaufmann uses the power of poetry and its capacity to pry open our hearts and minds in a gentle and welcoming way. Each poem conveys important messages about being connected with our soul and with our true nature. It’s in the unanticipated moment when the truth of the poems are realized, do we have an experience that for some of us, becomes like a prayer. These poems are her positives. Some relate overwhelming pain and sadness while others express the most joyous moments in her life. She also relates how anger can cripple as well as empower.

Each poem holds enough wisdom and enlightenment that will remain with you long after you’ve read them. These are poems that will stir the soul. This poetry is truly an invitation to mindful presence where the words and artistic expressions will initiate you, ‘wake you up’ so to speak, and guide you home.

If you are looking for the poet inside the poem, look for the undercurrent she has left, the continuous hint of feeling can be found everywhere throughout this work. It’s powerful and strong, yet delicate and descriptive Her pictures of emotional moods are painted beautifully. She has captured the essence of what a poet is. It’s only on the rare occasion that I get the opportunity to describe a poet in this way.

Ilene Goff Kaufmann will make you fall in love with literature again. If you’ve never liked poetry, you’ll love Rhyme & Reason: My Life in Poem. If you haven’t read much poetry, this is an excellent place to start. A highly recommended read and a well-deserved five stars.

Special mention also for the beautiful photographs by Audrina Kaufmann and Ilene Goff Kaufmann. The writer also introduces us to her eldest daughter, Audrina M. Kaufmann with her two poems entitled: “My First Love,” from a Teen’s Perspective and “Rain”. With skillful word tapestries, these poems are infused with the wisdom of deep thought and experience, a rare commodity in such a young author.

Ilene Goff Kaufmann was born and raised in rural Lapeer, Michigan. She was adopted when she was four years old, along with two of her brothers. She began writing poetry at a very early age. It became a way for her to express her deepest thoughts and feelings. Her love for writing poetry continued throughout her life.

After college, Ilene moved to middle Tennessee, where she married and raised her three beautiful daughters. She began writing for them, which can be seen in her poetry. She loves spending time with family, including her five family pets, as well as with her Christian friends and activities.

Now as a grandmother, Ilene has found a passion for writing children’s books. Watching her two granddaughters, growing up, inspired Ilene to write for them and about them, thus the newly released book, “Jaydens ‘s New Adventure’s” was born! In it, you’ll meet a four year old, blonde haired, blue eyed little girl, named Jayden. She and her puppy, Toby will take you and your child on wonderful adventures where they’ll learn about caring, forgiveness, responsibilities and making new friends. Jayden shares her first day of school jitters, getting a new puppy, and the excitement that comes with the birth of her new baby sister, Rylee! And as Jayden grows, your child will be able to grow up with her! Ilene hopes that you and your child will enjoy her first book from “The Jayden and Rylee Series”.

Watch for the upcoming, ” Jayden’s Adventure’s Continue!” and “Rhyme and Reason, My Life In Poems” to be released soon!
